Essay about Education: The Key To Success In Life
2136 Words9 Pages
“It is doubtful that any child can reasonably be expected to succeed in life if he is denied the opportunity of an education.” This was announced by the U.S. Supreme Court on May 17, 1954 (Thompson, 170). It would stand to reason that to live up to this decree, the child’s way of thinking, and quite possibly life, changes in the process of gaining said education. This is especially true of a black student attending a predominantly white school. I believe that the effect of black students gaining an equal education as their white counterparts improved their lives in many ways. The minority student is coming from a school that was more than likely a substandard facility that provided students with out-dated textbooks and little, if any,…show more content…
Each person’s behavior and the way they relate to others, both in public and private, demonstrates the customs by which they were raised. Religion plays a central role in the life of Black Americans. It is a constant characterization that gives life meaning and sustains survival efforts within the community. The Black Church gave an outlet for a number of talented blacks to express themselves and develop self-respect and pride (Thompson, 124). These developments were critical in preparing a person for the experiences they have after leaving the ghettos. For example, once a young black person enters into the mostly white school, they come to understand that there are really no differences between each other’s own religious practices. There is also the possibility that blacks may come into contact with other Americans, such as Jewish immigrants, who have been going through similar struggles to become respected citizens of the United States. The keyword is “preparation.”
What is preparation? Why and how should you do it?
Read on for a quick take on preparation.
Imagine you are participating in a 100 meter race next year. Would you just show up for the race next year? Okay, so you’ll train.
Would you start training the same week as your race? No, instead, you’ll start many months in advance – that is preparation.
When resources aren’t ready, do something, with the little you have so that when the other things become ready, you can move quickly – that is why you prepare.
“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” — John Wooden
Paraphrasing Wooden, Don’t let what you don’t have stop you from using with what you have.
Say you want to start a business but you’re broke.
If you’re smart, you will find out what skills you need & start learning them NOW. Alternatively, you’ll recruit motivated skilled people (probably for free. It’s possible.)
You’ll devour literature about that business. You’ll speak to potential customers, consult those doing the business… Even learn how to raise money. And when the money comes?
You start… with a higher chance of success.
What happens to those who wait for resources to fall on their laps? Failure. Because it’ll might never come. If it does, it’ll be too late, or they’ll need more than they budgeted.
It’s possible to use preparation as an excuse to procrastinate — out of fear of failure.
There’s only one cure: Active Preparation.
Start NOW! on a micro version or small area of your big goal. — That’s how you prepare.
